The goal of the 5-day 4 Year-Old Program is to offer an extension into the regular three-day MWF 4 year-old curriculum, as described on our website and school pamphlet, by adding two extra days of enrichment.  Through a curriculum rich in socialization, creative play, literature, language, music, art, discovery, hands-on math and science activities, gym/outdoor play, and interaction with peers and adults, your children will enjoy additional creative, engaging, and age appropriate activities.

·          Activities will follow the weekly and monthly themes of the core curriculum, and will revolve around the familiar experiences that surround children in their lives, as well as introducing them to new concepts, skills, and ideas. 

·         Themes will include friends, self, family, feelings, senses, nature, seasons, holidays, colors and shapes, letters and numbers, animals, dinosaurs, pets, health and nutrition, foods and cooking, community helpers, safety, seeds, plants and flowers, insects, and more.

·         Skills will continue to develop through activities designed to engage and strengthen all the realms of learning: social and emotional, fine and gross motor skills, cognitive skills, and language skills.

The structure of the day will maintain a balance of quiet and active time, including periods of free play, child and teacher directed activities, circle time, theme based activities, art, music and movement, snack, and gym or outdoor play.  Circle time will be interactive, utilizing more hands-on activities that revolve around themes, music, literature, and nature.

We will further explore our themes through books, puppetry, drama, music, songs, language and math games, letter-of-the-week art enrichment activities, pre-school level theme based Scholastic “newspaper magazines”, science experiments, more cooking projects, nature walks and discovery, art, interpretive painting, and more.   The children’s senses will be stimulated and engaged!

* Recognizing that adding 2 more days to your child’s week will mean more driving for you, it will not be necessary for parents to take turns coming in as parent helpers on Tues/Thurs afternoons.   Parents may still come in on MWF’s as usual, though.

This class is designed as an opportunity to experience some of the extra projects, ideas, and activities we always seem to run out of time for!!   Expect exploration and discovery, laughing, singing, dancing, excitement, and fun, fun, fun!!!
